Woman Afraid of Water characters Fun With AI -- yeah, I know all the reasons AI sucks, it's cheesy, but it's still kinda fun. I used it to create images of my characters -- not for commercial purposes, but for my own inspiration. I could not convince the robot to give Lady Cairne Auldwedd a nose ring in her right nostril, which was a symbol of marriage amongst Briton women. However, I am immensely pleased with Dr. Joyce DelaFemina, the anthropologist studying the AmeriCelts, the Woman Afraid of Water herself. It even got her ugly Oxford shoes right. Joyce's love interest, Graine the Bard, didn't turn out half-bad, although I could not quite convince the software to have him holding a Cymric / Welsh harp. And I really like the images of Dr. Pauletta Healy and grad student Ayafemme, who assist Joyce in her study of the Celts, and get caught up by magick and a blood feud along the way. It's fun to mess with but is unlikely to become a habit.

Seeds of the Future Dave and I try to plant our garden by the moon's astrological signs, above ground stuff when the moon is waxing, and root crops during a waning moon. Here he's planting lettuce in a strainer -- which works for a cute container garden.
This practice is very old -- not planting in containers, but gardening according to moon phase. Shout out to FedCo for organic seeds.

Beltane Family Tradition One of my very favorite family holiday traditions is the May Branch for Beltane. A person selected as the May Queen carries a branch with paper or cloth flowers for participants to choose, to use as talismans of protection for their home, car, school locker, workplace, etc. This year we had the cutest May Queen EVER with my 3-year-old granddaughter Willow. A person selected to portray "Death" carries the old May Branch out of the "village", with participants casting their negative emotions and energies into the poppet representing Death, before he is burned. This year, we had the handsomest Death ever, my 16-year-old grandson, Shad. Whoever manifests Death has to be careful to ground those energies rather than becoming "ridden" by them. Both of my kids, Rhiannon and Brandyn, have portrayed Death, while Rhia was also a May Queen in the past. I hope the tradition endures for generations. This tradition was briefly portrayed in the 1970s movie The Wicker Man, but since it was a horror film, they made it seem spooky. It's not. The May Branch and carrying out Death is a happy, life-affirming, joyous rite of spring.
